Pastor Rich was born and raised in Atwater. His family was a vital part of the Atwater Congregational Church for over a century and he attended services, sang in the choir and was a part of the Youth Group throughout his childhood. He even sang the featured solo for the church's 150th anniversary celebration in 1968.
Pastor Rich left Atwater when his family moved to Denver, Colorado in 1972. After graduating from high school he returned to the area for a short time before attending Trinity College and Seminary in Deerfield, Illinois.

Upon ending his studies in 1983, he and his his wife, Laurie, moved to Steamboat Springs, Colorado where they lived for 28 years. They raised two boys, Marc and Ryan, and Rich worked in the ministry as he was led. He served as Youth Minister, Sunday School Director, Elder, Interim preacher and Pastor as he was needed in 3 different churches. He also served as a Deputy Sheriff in Routt County before starting his own Private Investigating business.
In 2012, Pastor Rich and Laurie left Colorado to return to the Atwater area. They helped start the Men's Challenge ministry in Stark County where Pastor Rich currently serves as the Director of Workshops and as chaplain for the residency program. Pastor Rich also serves as a jail chaplain, court liaison and mentor for men entering society from jail, substance abuse rehabilitation homes and homeless shelters. He can be seen on TCT Television on the "Ask The Pastor" show and speaks regularly throughout the area.
In October of 2012, the Atwater Congregational Church called Pastor Rich and Laurie to return to their home church where they serve as Pastor and Secretary, respectively.
